So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke 11v9

Witnessing Miracles

Day after day our time is filled with seeing patients, praying for people, building something, planting something, communicating around the world, updating, accounting, home schooling, cooking, cleaning..... and the days fly by. Recently, everyone within our ministry has been focusing more on what God is saying is important. Things like the days starting with staff devotions, taking the time to really listen to those who come for counsel, prayer, fellowship. Through this, we are honoured to witness miracles. We are seeing one family who fell from the Lord growing closer to our Lord as they depend more on His strength and not their own. As a result, there is now employment and a means to buy food for the family. A mother is fighting cancer, third time out of remission and given grave news from the doctors. She is now bouncing around the village as God has once again put her into remission. Students who have not being doing their best in school now focusing, bringing home great report cards and they are giving all the credit only to God! It is such an honour to be a part of the miracles and the works of our Father in Heaven!

School Sponsorship
Currently, we have 19 children being sponsored to attend better schools - Praise God and thank you sponsors! We have 14 more children awaiting a sponsor for the next school year. Now is the time that schools are receiving applications for new students for 2011/2012. If you are interested in sponsoring a child for a better education and better life opportunities, please contact us and we will send you the list of waiting children for you to choose from. Currently, on the list are children from preschool to university age.

Mission Teams
We had a fabulous team from North Carolina in January who worked on a small house for a single lady, Cristina. We are still working to complete Cristina’s house. Roof, plastering, floor, plumbing and electrical are left.

In July, we have two teams coming. One from Friendship & SBF inVictoria BC who will be doing construction and evangelism and another from a ministry in Franklin, NC. The Franklin team is two teams in one. One group are young people who will be challenged in the villages. The other part is the leadership of their ministry who will be doing a week of workshops focusing on marriage and parenting. We are working with five local churches and opening this up to anyone in the area who wants to attend. We will then be leaving for Canada about the same day or day after the Franklin team leaves.

In June, we will celebrate 14 years in full time missions in the Dominican Republic. In the past 8 years, we have been off the mission field for a total of 3 months. In order to meet legal requirements for health, citizenship and taxes, we must spend an extended amount of time in Canada. For this reason, we will be taking a sabbatical, starting the middle of summer for 8 - 10 months. We will be calling the Trochu/Three Hills, Alberta area home while the kids attend school and Paul goes back to school.

Paul is using all the knowledge he has here on the mission field and it is time to increase his knowledge. He is applying to Prairie Bible Institute to take the Associate Pastor’s program. Paul has not done any schooling since grade twelve so he is feeling excited and apprehensive.

Sharyn will be working on communications, organizing trips to visit churches, supporters and other who request us to come share. We also plan to have a booth at MissionFest Vancouver BC in January 2012.

We are looking for a couple or family to rent our home here in the DR as we have a mortgage on it and need to continue to pay that. We are also looking for someone to oversee our ministry while we are away. We have very good Dominican staff who can operate everything very well but they have asked us if we would try to find someone to oversee so that they have that support on the ground here while we are away. We also need a house to rent while we are in Alberta. God has made it clear that we need to take this sabbatical at this time and, for legal reasons we need to as well. Plus, it will be great to “Canadianize” our kids as they do not know Canadian culture at all except what we tell them. It will be great for them to experience it themselves and make their own Canadian memories. Your prayers for all these preparations are greatly appreciated!

Seeing You
If you would like us to come share at your church, Bible study or visit while we are on sabbatical, please let us know. We receive much love, encouragement and support from so many in Canada and the US and we would like use our time on sabbatical to come to you if possible. In order to best plan our time, as we will have to juggle around school schedules, please contact us as soon as possible if you want us to come visit so that we can start to work on a schedule and a plan. We know that due to time and finances, we will not be able to see everyone in Canada and the US but it would be great to see as many of you as possible.
